Library Tech Industry Update

Marshall Breeding's presentation felt like it was beyond my level of comprehension. He presented data that was discovered through many years of research, fascinating, and I will try to summarize his presentation to the best of my ability.

Recently there has been an increase in diversity among library types regarding requirements for supporting technical infrastructure: Academic, Public, National, and k-12 schools.

Marshall listed various ILS companies and changes that have happened over the years. ILS companies buying smaller companies to become “bigger fish on the market".

Moving forward, ILS companies are interested in becoming adaptable. They are developing alternative functional approaches such as cloud storage, apps, and modules.

ILS products are being created with the intention of allowing users to enable choice for discovery. Creating multiple ways of accessing information in an effective and efficient way, one example is mobile apps. At the moment there is a drive toward pluggable modules and products that are not monolithic.
